June 2009
This portrait of Lawana posing was taken at the JC Raulston Arboretum located in Raleigh, NC. The shot was lit with a single shoot thru umbrella positioned above and to camera right. Located just to the left of the frame, a 2'x3' piece of foamcore was used as a reflector.
This portrait of my daughter Hannah and Snuggle Puppy is the result of my first session using a strobist lighting setup. Strobist lighting is a method of lighting using off camera strobes (flash), and radio transceivers made popular by David Hobby's strobist blog www.strobist.blogspot.com. I lit this shot using a shoot thru umbrella located above, and to camera right.
Join me and host Brian Chmura at Sara P. Duke Gardens in Durham, NC from 9:00 - 12:00 on 18 July 2009 for Scott Kelby's Second-Annual Worldwide Photo Walk.

Thank you, David Hobby for the inspiration you have provided me and those who want to learn how to light. Your Strobist site is absolutely amazing and priced right for the under employed. I have taken my first step into a larger world and anxiously await the UPS man to arrive with the pocket wizards, light stand and umbrella.
Welcome to the Pinwheel Studios blog! My name is Christopher Thompson and I love to see the world through the lens of my camera. I want to share my photographic experiences with you.
Until recently, I had forgotten just how much I enjoy photography. In January, the printing company where I worked as a production artist for seven years went belly up! It's been an adjustment to say the least.
